9-05 Driveway Gravel day 1 001 * This is where the gravel dumping begins; at the entrance on the county road. Because the
aggregate is various sizes, it cannot be tailgated (released and spread evenly by the truck as
it drives forward). Instead, the entire load must be dumped into the center core of the
driveway and Red will spread it with the dozer. * 640 x 480 * (37KB)
9-05 Driveway Gravel day 1 006 * Still at the entrance. The idea is to have these weighty trucks run across the gravel that was
dumped previously, smooshing it into the sub-soil. This will create a permanent base footing.
Between this and Red
9-05 Driveway Gravel day 1 010 * Red spreads the load. Surprising, little of it spills outside of the core area. * 640 x 480 * (48KB)
9-05 Driveway Gravel day 1 013 * This is a good shot of how it's supposed to work. The core is nothing more than the trench cut
into the soil, the width of the driveway. Ideally, it defines the width of the driveway, gets
down to somewhat un-disturbed soil, and provides edges or walls to confine the gravel within the
scope of work. * 640 x 480 * (46KB)
9-05 Driveway Gravel day 1 015 * Yep, that's a full load. It may not look like much, but that's a FULL truck-load. * 640 x 480 * (78KB)
9-05 Driveway Gravel day 1 030 * This is pretty much what a perfect job looks like. Nope, it ain't pretty, but it is a perfect
base. Remember, this is nothing more than a super foundation. Because our project may take years to complete, we will hold off on finishing it with nice driveway gravel until the last
concrete truck and piece of heavy equipment is gone. Until then, the ride into Liberty will be a little bumpy, but accessible. * 480 x 640 * (57KB)

9-05 Driveway Gravel day 2 006 * This is the first low spot during the drive into Liberty. It occurs right at the edge of the
woods. Before we started, the original grade was at the height of the culvert pipe. The road-
bed has been raised with soil (mostly from coring the drive in the meadow leading up to it), and
a whole lot of gravel on top of that. * 640 x 480 * (68KB)
9-05 Driveway Gravel day 2 015 * This is the result of a few trucks driving over the first culvert over-pass, at the edge of the
woods. This area is more vulnerable to this occurrence because it is not directly supported by
un-disturbed soil since it was built up over a culvert. That, combined with some rain last
night. This is one of the spots where my
9-05 Driveway Gravel day 2 016 * Got Ruts? No biggie....we can just throw in another truck-load. Brett can explain the tonnage
overage to Donna later. This tri-axle truck also carries over 40,000#. * 640 x 480 * (55KB)

9-05 Driveway Gravel day 2 023 * Another load goes in; the dozer waits. After the truck dumps, they run the rest of the driveway
to the end. At the end they turn around in the pond excavation area and come back out. While
they do this, Red hurries up, spreads out the load, and pulls off between the trees to let the
truck continue out. * 640 x 480 * (89KB)
9-05 Driveway Gravel day 2 024 * The dozer digs in quickly; gotta get it spread so the driver can get back out and go get
another load. * 640 x 480 * (79KB)
9-05 Driveway Gravel day 2 027 * Here comes the truck; he's already dumped to the right of the frame and the dozer has tracked
it in. This is his return trip; he has just turned around in the pond excavation area and is
heading back to the quarry pit. * 640 x 480 * (94KB)
