Liberty Pond Day 5 Jalbum Output  (15 Slides) [Page 1 of 1]
Pond Day 5, 59 60 61 * Yikes! I wonder at what point we leave the
10-05 Pond Day 5 027 * walking from the access drive along the southern side of the
pond; this entire south side is a fairly steep embankment * 640 x 480 * (74KB)
10-05 Pond Day 5 032 * We are closing in on the west end of the pond and location of the dam. As can be noted by the steeper slope, we are in an area that is ideal to locate a dam, tying into both bank. The
opposing bank (in the dam area)is of similar slope. * 640 x 480 * (80KB)
Pond Day 5, 52 53 * A good look into the gauntlet that leads to the dam area. This shot displays the two sloping
banks that will be used to tie the dam to the edges of the pond. When complete, the
estimated length of the dam at the top is about 325 - 350 feet. Looking thru the center, you
can see burn-pile #3; it is located in an open area that is where the dam will be constructed. * 640 x 317 * (50KB)
10-05 Pond Day 5 053 * We are moving closer to the dam area; center-frame is the southern bank as we look westerly. Burn-pile #3 can be seen just the other side of the opening. * 640 x 480 * (97KB)
Pond Day 5, 39 40 * This is a direct frontal shot of the proposed dam area. John and Red have opened it up, but need to complete
clearing both sides (left and right), moving up the slopes. This is also the location of burn pile #3; use it for
reference in the
next few shots * 640 x 301 * (46KB)

10-05 Pond Day 5 043 * We have just stepped over the western property line and are standing on the neighbor's parcel. We have turned around and are now looking back east, toward the way we just walked in. The striped pole is my western property boundary that stretches to the right (south) and to the left(north). For reference, burn-pile #3(located just down-stream of the dam area) is visible to the left, out in the sunny area of the pic. The dam will be constructed about 150 feet from this boundary. The soil the we scrape out of this end of the pond will be used to build the dam AND virtually fill this entire valley, edge-to-edge(left to right behind the dam), sloping backdown to the original grade we see just in front of this pole. * 640 x 480 * (102KB)
10-05 Pond Day 5 045 * We are now moving east and returning to the pond area basin.  Burn-pile #3 is now to the left;
the dam will stretch across in the area at the end of the burn-pile. You can see the nice
steep slope on the right; this continues all the way thru this area. All the timber will be
cleared up to the water-line. For the record, the water should be about 9 feet deep in this
area BEFORE we start scraping up the 4000-5000 cubic yards of soil to be used to fabricate the
dam. I am hoping for about 13 -14 feet deep right in front of the dam. * 640 x 480 * (96KB)
10-05 Pond Day 5 041 * This shot is taken from right next to the end of burn-pile #3. Assuming things go right, there
will be about 4000-5000 cubic yards of soil covering my standing location for this shot....we are standing right in the middle of the valley where the dam will stretch across. For the record, the dam is about 700 feet from the opposing eastern shoreline. * 640 x 480 * (61KB)
10-05 Pond Day 5 051 * Before we begin panning the pond basin, we take a quick look to the left, pretty much due north. This is looking directly up into the west draw that runs north. It is loaded with crappy Black Locust trees, alot of 'em dead or dying. This draw was going to be left somewhat natural with stumps, but the new program is to clear it out and use it to waste dirt(Explanation: a place toshove the soil that is scraped out of the main pond basin). When complete, it will be a gentle valley covered with grass....yes, this means maintenance, but what a great picnic area and view to the south and east. (and yes, it will be graded to allow un-interrupted run-off of the draw) * 640 x 480 * (91KB)
10-05 Pond Day 5 047 * We have just emerged from the western end of the pond; the dam area is about 150 feet behind us.The next few pix are taken from this point; we will visually pan across the pond basin. To the
left is north. (for the record, the timber pushing into the left of the frame will be cleared back about another 100 feet, further opening the pond basin) * 640 x 480 * (77KB)
10-05 Pond Day 5 046 * Same location as last shot, looking east. The access road is right-center, just behind a little
bump-out of trees. Burn-pile #2 is smoldering in the foreground. * 640 x 480 * (57KB)

10-05 Pond Day 5 050 * Still in the same spot, panning to look south-east; This is the shoreline that we walked when
this album tour began, entering from the far end. It is distinguishable by the steeper shore-
line slope. * 640 x 480 * (91KB)
Pond Day 5, 48 49 50 * Well, the dam site is about 150 feet behind us and we are looking over the main pond basin area.
The timber to the left will be removed about another 100 feet back into the woods. The timber
to the right is getting pretty close to the water-line; it won't take many more trees to get
there on this side since the banks are pretty steep. * 640 x 194 * (26KB)
Pond Day 5, 35 36 37 * We have moved over to the right (toward the south) as we take one more look over the pond basin
area. Burn-pile #2 is smoking. The timber on the left is the same area that needs to be
cleared back about another 100 feet. * 640 x 196 * (23KB)
